We used to generate some interesting postings with different types of Trivia, so let's try one from the sports category.

There were 7 Catholic College / University NCAA Men's Basketball Champions.

Who were they?

I'm going to give it a shot.

I know that Villanova was the last Catholic College to win the national championship by beating the heavily favored Hoyas in 1985. I believe Holy Cross, University of San Francisco, Loyola and LaSalle. One more I believe is possibily Georgetown. That's six.

I don't recall Saint John's ever winning the championship. I believe it may have been Notre Dame. The closest St. John's came was in 1985 when they had Chris Mullin, Bill Wennington, Willie Glass, Walter Berry playing the "Box & 5" defense. They were taken down by Georgetown that year.

I have no idea what the answer to your question is - are you surprised? Just wanted to say that when I lived in MT a friend of mine completed the basketball pool every year by picking all of the Catholic universities and she did pretty well! I vote for Notre Dame, as well. I'm more of a baseball and boxing fan. But i will take a chance on this too. So glad to see, our "trivia" postings coming back.

I tried to edit a previous post but was unsuccessful.

The defense employed by St. John's in 1985 was the Box & 1, not the Box & 5 as a I previously stated.

Hint - The 7th Team was actually coached by a New Yorker that 1st coached a small school in North Carolina called Belmont Abbey.

Now I am really grasping - so I'll throw in Fordham or Seton Hall, although i don't ever remember either of them in any kind of championship.

Was it North Carolina State, coached by Jimmy Valvano? I remember the scene of him running onto the Court after the game, looking for someone to hug and seemingly unable to find anyone to hug him.

Al McGuire's marquette team was the 7th that John Tell answered correctly.

Now, as they would say in school, "for extra credit" -- who was the key player(s) for each of these teams?
