13th Annual IFOND Golf Outing

Dear Friends:

We are pleased to announce our 13th Annual Golf Outing is scheduled for September 8, 2008.

As IFOND enters its 13th year, the Foundation has been able to sponsor 7 Scientific Field Investigations into its continuing efforts to the study the causes and model the treatment of Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON). The funds raised at this Annual Golf Outing provide the financial support needed to conduct productive and encouraging scientific expeditions. Each visit has added scientists from different disciplines and has expanded the areas of study. In some instances previously held theories about LHON have been dispelled while opening the door to new theories. The science has been expanded greatly through these studies. Within the next year, we are planning to sponsor our 8th scientific expedition.

These projects have grown to the point that most of the world literature published on LHON in the last 4 years is now connected to these yearly field expeditions and the cadre of scientists supported by IFOND.

Your support and generosity serve as direct support for these cutting-edge scientific studies. Your contributions are having direct and dramatic effects in assisting the scientific community continue their research. As a totally volunteer organization IFOND does not accrue any administrative costs related to salaries and the proceeds of our fundraiser very directly supports the study of Optic Nerve Disease.
